October 2005:
Stantek Electronics Ltd, feature in this weeks Gloucestershire
Citizen:
To coincide with the first year anniversary of Stantek's expansion
and the release of the re-designed web-site, the Gloucestershire Citizen
will be doing a feature on Stantek's expansion and recent investments.
This article appeared in the business section of the Gloucestershire Citizen on 18.10.2005
Stantek completed its expansion into larger premises in November 2004 and
has invested heavily in new equipment to enable them to become 'RoHS (lead
free) compliant' by the time the new RoHS Directive comes in force (1st
July 2006).
Stantek's Managing Director Errol Johnson says "As well as recently doubling
the size of our production facilities from 2-4 thousand feet, we have made
a huge investment in lead free manufacturing equipment in order to meet
our clients future demands. Installing the new equipment well ahead of the
deadline will also enable our manufacturing team to become fully conversant
with the new technology"
The main impact of the new Directive will be to severely restrict the use
of lead soldering to Ministry of Defence and Mobile applications. However,
use of other traditional materials such as Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent
Chromium, and PBB or PBDE flame retardants will also be banned or restricted
in the future.
Errol continued "We have also installed a new Juki 575 surface mount component
placement machine, as well as converting one of our Blundell flow soldering
machines for lead free work. Lead free manufacturing requires much higher
temperatures of 240°C in order for the soldering process to work successfully,
however it is a much cleaner and greener process. We aim to do everything
possible to assist our clients to ensure their production is fully compliant
with the new Directive!"
As well as the investment in enlarged premises and equipment, Stantek are
also aiming to achieve full ISO 9000 compliance in 2006. Stantek employ
a staff of 25 people at their modern, state of the art premises at Cotswold
Edge Business Park in Hempstead Lane.
